Starting from experimental theatre in Europe in 1992, Dafne has widely performed with various theatre companies (Teatrosfera, The Pirate Ship, Fil-à-Fil, Teatro Vicolo) in Italy, Austria, Germany and Singapore. Along with her theatre work she has pursued her training in various disciplines (capoeira, gymnastic, classical ballet). In her quest to find a medium of expression in which she could blend dance and acting, in 1996 she went to India and took to Classical Dance - Odissi. Fascinated both by the spiritual and sensual aspect of the style, she trained for six years in Orissa, while conducting her academic research work. She received the major part of her training in Kelucharan Mohapatra's style at Srjan, Bhubaneswar. She has also been trained in Mayurbanj Chhau, a martial art of Orissa, as she felt that its wide range of postures and movements would adapt well to modern as well as traditional treatment. Along with her dance training she also attended hatha and kryia yoga courses at the Bihar School of Yoga, Bhubaneswar. She has explored the development of Odissi also through her study of Anthropology, in which she has a Master's degree from the University Paris VII, Department of Ethnology and Religious Studies (2000 - France). She has presented performances and lecture demonstrations on Odissi at various festivals and Universities in India and Europe (Centre Mandapa, Paris; Indian Embassy, Berlin; Identità e Differenza, Turin; Festival Teatri di Confine, Chivasso; Utkal University - IGNCA, Bhubaneswar; Puri Beach Festival, India; Turin University; Utkal University; Baripada University; Genova University). 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 © copyright Dafne Rusam Carli |
